The Kids of Jacaranda Place

After the first Jacaranda Place "blooms" photo was so successful, we decided to take another Jacaranda photo, but this time celebrating the kids of Jacaranda Place. This street in Fullerton is know for it's sense of family and community. In fact, every fourth of July, this entire street is blocked off for bicycle parades, food and family fun.

In this photo, the kids that live on Jacaranda Place each brought something to the shoot...something important to them...either a ball, or a bike, or even a Bible.

I love this photo because one day when these kids are all grown up and have families of their own, we will enjoy looking back at their youth and wonderful memories.

Next project for Jacaranda? I want to photograph the "Dogs of Jacaranda Place." Wouldn't that be fun?

Jacaranda Place

In June 2004, my friend Jennifer Lilley asked me to photograph her street at the 300 block because the Jacaranda trees had a particularly spectacular bloom that year. We removed as many cars as we could, got a tall ladder and photographed one Saturday morning. This photo has become a favorite to many people, including those that don't even live in Fullerton. I love that the purple blooms appear as they if they go forever. Thank you Jennifer for this wonderful idea and for making it happen. Thank you neighbors on Jacaranda Place.

Plummer Auditorium

Plummer Auditorium is on the Fullerton High School campus at Chapman and Lemon in Fullerton. My grandmother graduated from Fullerton HS in 1928. I have her high school ring and yearbooks. It's been fun as a mother to also watch my four kids perform in this auditorium.

Build in 1922, Villa Del Sol was once an elegant hotel with over 120 rooms. The structure now serves as the home to many shops, restaurants, boutiques, beauty salons and old-fashioned offices.

Angelo's & Vinci's Ristorante

Standing in the middle of Harbor Blvd., this photo was taken with 35 mm film. The bicyclist that rode through the photo has greatly enhanced it, but his identity remains a mystery.
